The account you have or will received relates to pathology testing performed and reported by SydPath as requested by your doctor.
SydPath is a fully accredited NATA/RCPA registered laboratory, offering a wide range of teaching hospital pathology services to both St Vincent's Hospital and the wider community.
Our Fees
We use the Australian Medical Association (AMA) rates as a guide to set our fees. To ensure that we continue to operate a cost effective service to our clinicians and patients we have already applied a 27% discount on the AMA rate to your account.
Most pathology services receive a Medicare rebate, and the difference between our fees and your Medicare rebate should be less than $100* per outpatient occasion of service.
For a private hospital admission where you are a member of a health fund, your out-of-pocket pathology expenses after the rebate from your Health Fund should, in most cases, be less than $350.00
* Refer to Gap Protection Policy.
Understanding our Billing Policy
This information explains our billing process for outpatient services provided by SydPath.

SydPath's private account charges are based below the Australian Medical Association rate. The fee includes the Medicare rebate amount plus a gap of out-of-pocket payment.
Gap Protection Policy
SydPath has a gap protection policy. This means that the maximum out-of-pocket expense per episode for Medicare rebatable tests that are referred to SydPath will be $100.00.
lf your costs exceed the above amounts and you have paid your account in full, you can write to us requesting a refund of the excess amount. Please provide your invoice number, and copies of your rebate receipts.
*NOTE: Non Medical Benefits Schedule tests (flagged as 'Non MBS' on your account) do not qualify for a Medicare rebate or an "excess" refund.
Does Medicare cover all Pathology tests ordered?
Not all tests are eligible for the Medicare rebate. Refer to our Non Rebatable Test List
The out-of-pocket cap amount does not apply to these tests and must be paid for in full.
