Anatomical Pathology and Cytopathology
Dr Andrew Parker BMedSc(UTas), MBBS(Hons)(UTas), FRCPA is an Honors graduate in medicine from the University of Tasmania. He trained in Anatomical Pathology in New South Wales gaining experience at St. Vincent’s Hospital, John Hunter Hospital, Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Institute of Forensic Medicine and Concord Repatriation Hospital. After completing his Fellowship in 2000 he returned to Tasmania as a Specialist Anatomical Pathologist at the Royal Hobart Hospital. From 2005-2009 he worked as a Consultant at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford, UK, where he developed sub-specialty experience in breast pathology, endocrine pathology (particularly thyroid) and cytopathology. During this time he was a Senior Lecturer at Oxford University. Andrew returned to Sydney in late 2009, and took up his current position at St. Vincent’s Hospital. He is involved in many research projects, postgraduate teaching and undergraduate teaching at the University of New South Wales. He is a member of the Australian Society of Cytology and serves on the RCPA Informatics Advisory Committee.
His primary pathology interests remain breast pathology & cytopathology and thyroid pathology & cytopathology, including the rapid assessment and diagnosis of fine needle aspiration biopsies. His other areas of interest are haematopathology, ENT pathology and uropathology.
